Backpack Buddies Program
Backpack Buddies Program
Did you know that insufficient nutrition in young children can inhibit growth and affect brain development? It’s true! Studies have shown that hungry children suffer two to four times as many health problems as other children. The weekend can mean hunger to many area children who depend on school meals for their primary nutrition. Cross Timbers Backpack Buddies (using the Tarrant Area Food Bank as a primary food source) provides sacks filled with child-friendly, nonperishable food to students most at risk of being hungry on the weekends. The food is distributed on Friday afternoons at their schools and provides food for the students and their school-aged siblings.
